Lancer teams heading to court, rink, and track

Fans of varsity sport have a lot to choose from this weekend.

The Toldo Lancer Centre will host a pair of volleyball doubleheader matches against the Western Mustangs. On Friday, the women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. Saturday, the women play at 4 p.m. and the men at 6 p.m.

Basketball is in St. Catharines to play the Brock Badgers on Friday, but will return home Feb. 4 to tip off against the Guelph Gryphons for Alumni Sunday Funday. UWindsor alumni qualify for special $1 admission to both games: the women at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m. Tickets will be available at the gate or online using the promo code SUNDAYFUNDAY. The fun includes giveaways and contests sponsored by the Alumni Association.

Women’s basketball head coach Chantal Vallée hit a milestone a couple of weeks ago, topping 400 wins as a coach with the Lancers. Her career record is 403-141 heading into this weekend’s action; that win total is ninth among active coaches in any Canadian university sport.

Women’s hockey will host the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex on Saturday at 4 p.m. Men’s hockey is in Thunder Bay to face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in games Friday and Saturday.

Curling will compete in the Ontario University Athletics championship bonspiel, Friday through Sunday in Guelph. The women will open against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and the men against the Algoma Thunderbirds.

Lancer track and field athletes will split their efforts among three competitions this weekend: the York Open in Toronto, the Bison Classic in Winnipeg, and Youngstown State University Invitational tournament in Youngstown, Ohio. The men’s team is ranked fifth and the women seventh in Canada by U Sports.
