Home turf yields medals for track and field athletes

Lancer athletes won 15 medals at the Can Am Classic track and field tournament, Jan. 12 and 13 at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

Overall, the blue and gold took home seven gold, four silver, and four bronze medals.

A.J. Stanat’s men’s shot put of 15.88m and weight throw of 16.97m both earned top honours.

Jacob Fitzpatrick and Ben Tilson each won a pair of medals at the event. Fitzpatrick captured silver in the men’s 3000m and bronze in the mile. Tilson brought home gold in the men’s 600m and claimed silver as part of the Lancer 4x200m relay team along with Ryan Mahabir, Ian McPhee, and Cameron John-Dunslow.
 
Caleb Keeling placed first overall in the men’s high jump with a height of 2.02m, while Nojah Parker claimed gold in the pole vault with a height of 4.85m.

On the women’s side, Mandy Brunet finished first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.
 
Isabella Goveia placed first in the 600m and joined teammates Nadia Pupatello, Emily Wilke, and Christina Esposito to a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay. Pupatello was also a member of the 4x200m silver medal team with Maya Metivier, Ashlynn Gascoyne, and Riley Robitaille.

Bronze medals went to Samara Quanz in the 3000m and Harley Martin in the weight throw.
