Student work claims film fest kudos

Student filmmaker Evan Johnson has garnered another win on the film festival circuit.

His short film “Shower Thoughts” won the Best Student Film category at the 2023 Sault Film Festival, which ran Nov. 24 to 26 in Sault Ste Marie.

This film was created for professor Mike Stasko’s class, Film Production III, during the Winter 2023 semester.

The assignment was to write a short film, then with the help of classmates, bring your story to life in a short film of 3 to 5 minutes.

“The tagline for this film is: ‘Annoyed by his fellow roommate, Nick seeks out the disruptive noises coming from the bathroom...’,” says Johnson.

The cast and crew are almost identical to the filmmaking team “The All-Stars” that took home two awards — for best cinematography and best use of character — at the 2023 Windsor international Film Festival Mark Boscariol 48-Hour FlickFest:

  • written, directed, and edited: Evan Johnson
  • assistant director: Gwyneth Roy
  • director of photography: Clay Leblanc
  • sound recordist: Sam Rosso
  • assistant camera: Kendra Schmidt
