Choral concert to kick off Christmas celebrations

This year’s School of Creative Arts Festival of Christmas concert features students in the University Singers and UWindsor Chamber Choir, and some demonstrating the progress of their studies as conductors.

The program covers a wide spectrum of holiday music from classical, traditional Austrian and Scottish, to contemporary compositions by Ola Gjeilo, John Rutter, and Pinkzebra — to an audience carol sing-along.

Bruce J.G. Kotowich conducts the University Singers and UWindsor Chamber Choir, and teaches conducting students Jamie Brown-Hart, Haiden Couvillon, Éoghan McCullough, and Nora Wood.

Nicholas Morvay conducts special guests the Windsor Essex Youth Choir.

The choirs are accompanied by pianists Alde Calongcagong and Monique Simone, percussionists Nicholas Papador and Tristan Wiley, flutist Mercedes Greer, and harpist Charlie Cassidy-Boulos.

The Festival of Christmas takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 2735 University Ave. West.

Tickets are $20, with a $10 student rate, available in advance online or at the door using debit or credit card.
