Armouries to host charity broadcast

A special edition of the CBC Windsor News at 6 will broadcast live from the School of Creative Arts Armouries on Friday, Dec. 8, as part of the national network’s annual “Sounds of the Season” charity drive.

The Windsor campaign will collect donations of foods and funds in support of the UHC – Hub of Opportunities.

The UHC distributes goods through the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association, and provides services to:

  • help job seekers secure employment,
  • assist newcomers in settling into the community,
  • train youth to enter the workforce, and
  • address immediate needs, including warm winter clothing or meeting energy bills.

It reports usage of its programs is at an all-time high.

That need is why the University was happy to host Friday’s broadcast, says Marian Gayed, associate vice-president external.

“The work of the UHC is so important to those in need in Windsor-Essex,” she says. “Our students, faculty, and staff are engaged with its programs in so many ways, from the clubs collecting cereal to the Lancer winter clothing drive. Helping with Sounds of the Season is just another way we can support the community.”

Alumna Meg Roberts (BA 2017) will anchor the evening newscast from the Armouries at 353 Freedom Way. The public is invited to attend and donate non-perishable food items; doors will be open from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Those who aren’t able to join in person may watch the show on CBC Gem and make a contribution online.
