Food and fellowship at heart of celebration

Patrons enjoyed games, activities, and a sampling of foods from around the world celebrating the diversity of the campus community during International Students Day, Tuesday at the student centre.

Fashion and talent shows followed a fun fair of bean bag toss, oversized Jenga, and target challenges for soccer, basketball, and football, but one attraction proved especially irresistible, says organizer Romi Saraswat of the International Student Centre — the food.

“The word has been getting out and we’ve had people lining up,” trying such dishes as samosas, spring rolls, arancini, and poutine, she said.

Anam Gillani, a masters of management student from Pakistan, was alerted to the event by Instagram.

“It’s nice to see so many people having fun,” she said. “Plus, it’s free.”
