Coffee house to promote wellness and community

A wellness-themed coffee house at the Green Bean Café on Friday promises community, entertainment, and fun.

Hosted by Lancers Recover, the UWinPride Committee, Peer Support Centre, and University of Windsor Students’ Alliance, it will run 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 17.

Organizers invite campus community members to share their work, talents, and experience with others. Those interested in performing may choose to read poetry, play music, sing, dance, tell stories of hope and inspiration, share their artwork, or any other form of creative expression.

Register in advance to have your piece pre-approved or show up at the door ready to run through your idea with an organizer before hitting the stage.

“It’s not that we are trying to gatekeep, but that we want to ensure submissions maintain a theme of wellness, hope, or other positive messaging” says Mack Park, co-chair of UWinPride and co-ordinator of Lancers Recover. “We recognize that poetry, music, storytelling — it can all be deeply personal, and we want to offer a space for honest expression.”

The first event of this kind was hosted in January 2023, and welcomed more than 50 attendees who came to share in a space of joy and mutual recognition.

“We hope to see an even greater turnout this week, as we aim to expand our inclusive programming for campus community members,” Park says.

The Green Bean Café is located on the lower level of the University Community Church at 2320 Wyandotte St. West.
