Entries in the 2023 Canadian Labour International Film Festival will enjoy a free public screening Thursday, Nov. 16.

Hosted by the Windsor University Faculty Association and Local 1393 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the event will feature:

• Bergie (South Africa 2022) depicts a law enforcement officer who has to remove homeless people in order to make way for a 10km fun-run.
• Whitewash (Canada 2022) looks at the pressure felt by Iranian immigrants in Canada to change their given names to Western names to increase their chance of getting a job, and the consequences of this act of cultural and identity erasure.
• Not Another Ballet Story (United States 2023) documents a small contemporary dance company’s work to provide its dancers with a opportunity to write the future of ballet.
• Hippocrates: A Guide to Treating Healthcare Workers (Canada 2022) explores who wins and who loses under a privatized health-care system and why doctors are fleeing Alberta.
• Allegory (Spain 2023), in a parallel to class struggle, posits a race in which the most important thing is not to win, but to arrive.
• Mindslip (Canada 2023) examines the Indian immigrant work experience in Toronto.
• Hongkongers: a Recollection (United Kingdom 2022) follows the experience of Siu Tat Mung, a leader in the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions.

The Workers’ Film Festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Green Bean Café, 2320 Wyandotte St. West.
