The status of human rights in Iran is the subject of a presentation Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Faculty of Law.
Javaid Rehman, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, will share his observations in a free public presentation at noon in room 160, Ron W. Ianni Faculty of Law Building.
Among other things, the UN Special Rapporteur monitors human rights violations and reports his findings to the UN Human Rights Council and General Assembly. In addition to his UN duties, Rehman is a professor of international human rights law and Muslim constitutionalism at Brunel University, London, U.K.

The discussion will be moderated by law professor Chris Waters, who notes: “Many on our campus have been affected by the Iranian regime’s actions, including the downing of Flight PS 752 in 2020. The special rapporteur’s work is crucial in the ongoing struggle for accountability, and it is a real honour that he will be visiting the University of Windsor as the first stop in his visit to Canada.”
