Workshop to explore intercultural pedagogies and practices in higher education

Johanna Funk, lecturer in cultural knowledges from Charles Darwin University in Australia and a visiting fellow at the Office of Open Learning, will conduct a workshop on Intercultural Pedagogies, Practices and Perspectives in Higher Education, on Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in room 51, Chrysler Hall South.

Dr. Funk brings a wealth of expertise in open educational practices and Indigenous workforce development. Her research journey has taken her from Canada to the United Kingdom and Australia, where she has explored the convergence of workforce competence in cultural studies and open educational practices.

Her recent work seeks to uncover ways to maintain humanist intelligence and integrity alongside technological advancements. Her workshop will explore the role of compassion and pedagogies of care in shaping authentic learning cultures, while simultaneously preserving human, educational, and intercultural integrity.

Funk emphasizes the importance of connecting with authentic and thoughtful scholars with lived experience, particularly when it comes to incorporating equitable and relevant elements of indigenous pedagogical practice. Her workshop will share insights gleaned from her extensive experience working in education systems across the U.K., Australia, and Canada.

With a focus on social justice in education, she promises to engage participants in meaningful discussions on building stronger partnerships with Indigenous students, scholars, and communities and incorporating Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum.

The workshop can be attended in person or online. To register, visit the Visiting Fellows Workshop Series site.
