Chancellor roast to spark University’s 50th anniversary celebrations

A roast of UWindsor Chancellor Ed Lumley, May 30 at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel, is a first harbinger of the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013/14.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Centre for Engineering Innovation, a project Lumley describes as near and dear to his heart. The dramatic new building is an important first step in a master plan that will transform the campus.

An alumnus (BComm 1961), a minister in the Canadian governments of Pierre Trudeau and John Turner, and a businessman, Lumley became chancellor of the University of Windsor in 2006.

The honorary co-chairs of his roast are Turner, a former prime minister of Canada, and former Ontario premier William Davis. CBC news anchor Peter Mansbridge will preside as master of ceremonies while roasters include Ontario minister of finance Dwight Duncan, political strategist and communicator Bill Fox, former Ontario premier Michael Harris, former Ontario minister Sandra Pupatello, and former premier of Newfoundland and Labrador Brian Tobin.

Event tickets are $1,000; tax receipts will be issued net of expenses. The hotel is holding a block of rooms until May 11 for $229 per night. For more information, please contact special events manager Mary-Ann Rennie at mrennie@uwindsor.ca or 519-973-7059.
